An alarming number of people suffer from seriousness.

As a psychotherapist. I help people with their emotional health to overcome problems, improve relationships and physical health. Laughter can often do the same thing. Here I’m going to give you a little more info on what makes laughter so good for you.

What makes you laugh?

It’s a reaction to certain stimuli.

  • It could come from hearing a good joke...not here
  • Being tickled.

    Laughter is a visual expression of a positive emotional state, like:

  • Joy
  • Happiness
  • Relief
  • Laughter can also express other emotions such as:

  • Embarrassment
  • Surprise
  • Nervousness-- nervous laughter
  • Confusion
  • And just courtesy laughs

    I love it when someone’s laugh is funnier than the joke.

    According to Glasbergen "Laughter is the best medicine, giggling is good for mild infections, chuckling works for minor cuts and bruises, and snickering only makes things worse.”

    Laughter IS good medicine.

    Laughter triggers the release of endorphins the body’s feel-good chemicals.

    Endorphins - Remember endorphins? They promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.

    Endorphins are often associated with runners high or eating CHOCOLATE!

    The physical benefits of laughter.

    The immune system is what the body uses to fight germs and infection. Scientists say that 90% of all one dollar bills carry germs. Not true! Even a germ can't live on a buck these days. ...It's hard to find a good germ joke.

    Laughter relaxes the whole body.

    A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress,leaving your muscles relaxed.

    HOW LONG? for up to 45 minutes after.

    Laughter protects the heart against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

    When is the worst time to have a heart attack?

    When playing charades.

    Brain - stress and laughter are both initiated in the brain. The cerebral cortex ad limbic system incl hypothalamus modulates or suppresses emotion

    Depending on personality, babies laugh 300x/day. How much do adults laugh?
